Pomegranates have a red or pinkish-yellow skin on the outside and inside there are hundreds of seeds surrounded by a cream-coloured membrane. Remove that membrane and enjoy the sweet-tart flavour of the bright red seeds. The seeds (or arils) taste great in salad, yogurt, and on their own as a snack.

White (or button) mushrooms have a white to pale tan colour with a smooth, rounded cap. They have a mild, earthy flavour and can be used raw or cooked. Add white mushrooms to your next vegetable platter or thread on skewers for kebabs on the grill.

Spinach has dark green leaves that are either flat and smooth or curly and crinkled. Both have crisp, fragrant leaves and a slightly bitter flavour.
